General Dancing Education
These sections are targeted mainly at children of school age wanting to take their first steps in the world of dance. In the first trimester of their three year studies, the students are taught the basic and most important dance movements such as:
  • Greek folk and traditional
  • Cypriot traditional
  • Latin American
  • Modern

After the first years of studies, the students are capable of continuing their dance studies at a more advanced and specialized level according to their personal preferences.

Cypriot Folk Dancing

The folk and traditional dance of each country outlines and expresses in a most intense way the character and history of the people. Dance and music in the lives of the Cypriots consists of a live show of feelings and emotions at various social events. Whatever we place in the category "Greek Traditional Dancing" and "Greek Traditional Music" is whatever we managed to learn from our homeland. The Cypriot traditional dance continues to hold a special place at our school as the symbol of our cultural inheritance.

Greek Folk Dancing

The Greeks are very proud of their wonderful history in music. Throughout the passing of time a wide vairety of dance and music has been born, loved and evolved. All the Greeks entertain and express themselves through their dances and through the rhythms of their music. The following Greek dances are taught:

Latin Dances

Latin American dances have become very popular throughout the world and this is not by chance. It has become part of the world wide dance repertoire and it is included as part of the program of studies in all of the well respected dance schools around the world. Latin American dance distinguishes from other dances due to its live rhythm and special technique.

European Ballroom

Popular dances that have become much loved in all of Europe due to their social character and simplicity. Their timeless nature has see them in many plush settings keeping parties going throughout the world. Ballroom dances are a combination of a large group of dances which have given the opportunity to many youngsters throughout time to socialize and flirt.

Flamenco

The Spanish tradition in the creatvity of arts is one of the richest in the world. Flamenco music and dance play an important part in Spanish tradition which is said to have originated in the region of Andalucia. It is a dance which expresses the local temperament quite strongly. The passion, tension, tapping of the feet and emotional charge of the music are its basic characteristics.

Ballet

Ballet is a way in which you can narrate a story where music and dance replace words. It's roots go back a few centuries ago to the courts of the Italian nobility. It wasn't long before ballet was placed in the classical dance culture worldwide. In our mind the word ballet reminds us of grace, charm, beauty and courtesy. Children through ballet acquire flexibility, a good figure, grace and symmetrical development. *Optional participation in IDTA exams.

 

 

Jazz

Freestyle Jazz was born in the beginning of the 20th century when Isidora Danka abandoned ballet and devised a very personal dance style. Similarly the American dancer Martha Graham developed her own artistic style and later many prominent dancers followed. Freestyle dance offers the opportunity to express personal feelings and to try out new methods in body movement and expression. The dance jazz is dynamic, expressive and entertaining at the same time. The intense rhythm, the rocking of the hips, the isolation of movements, and the absolute coordination are the basic characteristics of this type of dance. Up until the 1940's jazz was danced exclusively to jazz music but now jazz is also danced to the rhythms of other contemporary music. *Optional participation in IDTA and ISTD exams.

Special Seminars

The school maintains good relationships with well recognised schools abroad. Apart from the regular programmed lessons, we offer a short series of specialized lessons in the form of seminars in which the teachers are foreign distinguished instructors. Some of the dance teachers which have given seminars at our school are:

International Exams

In the various departments of the school, the students are prepared for exams of international standards. The participation of the students in the exams is optional. The following examination boards are represented:

  • IDTA -International Dance Teachers' Association (Latin, Ballroom dance)
  • ISTD -Imperial Society of teachers of Dancing (Ballet, Modem Dance, Jazz)
  • SDS -Spanish Dance Society (Flamenco)
Other Activities

Artistic shows

Dance groups of students from the school participate in cultural shows that are organized by municipalities, civil organizations and the ministry of education. Artistic shows are also given on television programs in which the school is often invited. These shows contain dancing routines and drama.

End of year performance

The end of year show is the school's biggest performance. It is organized every year with the graduation of students and it completes the school's entire years' work. The show is open to the public and special interest is shown to attend it.

Educational parties

These are organized by the school and have both an educational and entertainment character. The students participate freely at these parties cultivating further the dance skills and artistic talent that they have gained from the school and its various departments. Here they exchange experience dancing and mingling with the other students outside of class restrictions.
